Cross Valley Canal Interim CVP Contract Renewals Are Planned By Reclamation

Two-year Central Valley Project interim renewal contracts will be executed by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation for seven Cross Valley Canal contracting agencies along the Friant-Kern Canal.
Reclamation officials said the contracts will have an effective date of March 1, 2014. They will extend existing interim renewal contracts, which expire on February 28, 2014.
Cross Valley contractors use CVP water conveyed through the California Aqueduct and Cross Valley Canal to Bakersfield where it is delivered into the Friant-Kern Canal near its Terminal Check at the Kern River. Some of the supply is directly delivered through a system of Friant-Kern Canal pumps. Other water is made available through exchanges with Friant Division contractors.
The Cross Valley contracts are for water service and are separate and apart from other Friant agencies’ contracts with Reclamation, many of which have been converted to new permanent agreements through repayment of CVP capital cost obligations under legislation implementing the San Joaquin River Restoration Program.
Cross Valley contractors include Tulare and Fresno counties, the Hills Valley, Pixley and Lower Tule River irrigation districts, Kern-Tulare and Tri-Valley water districts.
