Storm Activity Remains Light

There has been some storm activity so far this fall. It’s just there hasn’t been much of it.

The result is an early deficiency from average in valley rain and Sierra snow, although there has been a little precipitation with a small blanket of snow at higher elevations.

A series of storms predicted to visit the valley and mountains after press time on November 16 also looks to be on the dry side, forecasters said, with little promise for really breaking the dry season and beginning to reverse last year’s below-average water conditions.

There are no Central Valley Project deliveries being made to the Madera and Friant-Kern canals, and Millerton Lake storage is nearly steady at about 265,000 acre-feet, 51% of capacity. River inflow totals – both natural and actual – are seasonally low, reflecting the lack of significant storm activity.

Long-range winter forecasts of precipitation remain inconclusive.
