Desalinzation Bonds Sold

A favorable bond sale rate for a planned Carlsbad desalination plant could result in water produced by the plant costing less than expected. The San Diego County Water Authority in November approved a contract to buy up to 56,000 acre-feet of desalinated water per year from Poseidon Resources in order to secure a local water supply. The lower rate that was announced last month will save approximately $125 per acre-foot. That will reduce the price of water from the plant to between $1,917-$2,165 per acre-foot. Construction is set to start in early 2013 with operation to follow three years later
