Feds Say State Is Out of Safe Drinking Water Act Compliance

Taking an action that backs up frustrations in seeking funding for disadvantaged communities’ water quality improvements, the Environmental Protection Agency ruled April 19 that California is not complying with the federal Safe Drinking Water Act.
EPA officials said they took the action after years of unsuccessfully attempting to get the California Department of Public Health to document spending under program and for allegedly “sitting” on some $455 million that could have been used for local water system improvements.
