A former State Senator, Michael Machado, is resigning from the Delta Protection Commission after two decades of involvement in state government, much of it spent on Delta issues.
The commission he is leaving is one of many within the web of Delta agencies but is one of the lesser known panels.
Commissioners recently issued a report favorable to the Delta’s farming, recreation and tourism benefits. It proposed strengthening Delta levees as an alternative to the twin tunnel plan for water conveyance being backed by the Brown administration and Bay Delta Conservation Plan. Machado and the Commission also sought to have the Delta named as a national heritage area.
